University of Guelph PhD Thesis Template in LATEX

The Office of Graduate Studies at the University of Guelph has a nice Microsoft Word template for the thesis title and abstract page that imbeds their document format requirements, but they don’t seem to have one in LATEX. Earlier this year, when I submitted my thesis, it took me a while to modify a latex template that another university had made available.

In hopes that this will save you quite some time, I am sharing the modified package and a complete thesis template here: uogthesis-template

In case the zipped folder fails to unzip or download, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Joniada

Thank you very much for including this template on your website! I really appreciate having it as a resource. The only problem I'm running into so far is that I can't find where to overwrite "Economics" from "Doctor of Philosophy in Economics". A search of all the documents in the folder yielded no results for the string "Economics". Where can I find it, and how can I change it? Thanks again!

Hi Carolyn, Thanks for your comment! You can change the major in the "uogthesis.cls" file, scroll down to line 331 and overwrite "Economics" as desired. Hope this helps and all the best!

Hi Joniada, Thanks a lot for making this awesome template. But when I try to build, I got an error as "line 155: I can't find file `uct12.clo'. \input uct1\@ptsize.clo\relax line 155: Emergency stop. \input uct1\@ptsize.clo\relax" Do you know why?

Hi Max, In "PhD_00_Thesis.tex" do you load the "setspace" package? Also, you need to make sure you have it installed in your computer, you can install the package from the Tex Live Utility if you are working on a Mac. Once you've checked that, and it still gives you the error, then try adding the following in the preamble of "PhD_00_Thesis.tex": \makeatletter \gdef\@ptsize{0}% 10pt documents % or: %\gdef\@ptsize{1}% 11pt documents %\gdef\@ptsize{2}% 12pt documents \let\@currsize\normalsize \makeatother \usepackage{setspace} \doublespace Hope this helps! Best, Joniada

Hi Joniada, I have been trying to to get the template to work. It has worked before but I recently implemented a few long tables in my document. Ever since then, the document does not compile unless I remove the numbering from the \chapter command by using \chapter*{}. Do you know how the longtable would affect the numbering or the counter or something? Regards, Keith

thank you for having a working template. Many of the templates that are floating around are getting old and do not work properly. Question for you, how do you change the page numbers from the top of the page to the bottom?
